I think these areas are the most popular for day trips in Taiwan.
We decided to go to Yehliu Geopark first as it was advised in blogs to visit there during morning.
How to go to Yehliu Geopark from Ximending:
1. Go to Ximen Train Station and go down to Taipei Main Station
2. From Taipei Main Station, just follow the signs going to "Taipei Bus Station" or look for M2.
3. Once you are at the Kou Kang Bus Terminal, board the bus 1815 going to Yehliu. Please note that if you will use your Easy Card, you'll have to tap your card upon boarding and upon alighting. We tapped our card upon boarding and thought that we were already paid. When we alighted the bus, the driver said we need to tap again. The driver really went down and followed us to let us tap the card again. It seems like they will get half the payment upon entry and the remaining upon going down.
5. Walk to your right until you find the entrance to the Geopark. Entrance fee for adult is 80 ntd.
Tips:
*** It's very hot during the day so please make sure you have an umbrella with you.
From Yehliu Geopark to Jiufen:
1. From Yehliu Geopark, walk back to where you alighted from the bus. Cross the street and wait for Bus 790 or 862 going to Keelung. Fare is 30ntd.
2. Upon alighting in Keelung, cross the street via the footbridge and wait for Bus 788. Fare is another 30ntd.
3. The bus will drop you off in Jiufen. Youbjust have to walk a little going up and when you see 7/11, pass by the street beside it. It shall lead you to an overwhelming number of stalls 😀
From Jiufen to Shifen:
1. Upon going back to 7/11, walk going up to bus station. Ride a bus that will drop you off in Riufang Railway Station. I forgot the buss number but you can check it in their info sheet in the bus stop.
2. From Riufang Railway Station, ride a train going to Shifen Railway Station. Trains have schedule. You'll have to wait for the next scheduled train. Go to Platform 3 😉. The journey is around 40 minutes so it will be really good if you have your own seat in the train. I forgot the fare but it's about 17ntd.
From Shifen Railway Station to Taipei:
1. From Shifen Railway Station, board the train opposite to where you alighted. This will drop you of to Riufang train Station. It would be smart if you ask the departure of the train schedule so you can estimate your time there as the train comes in long intervals. This train is usually jampacked so better prepare yourself to stand up for 40 minutes.
2. From Riufang Railway Station transfer to another train going to Taipei. It's in Platform 2A. This will drop you off in Taipei Main Station. From there, you can locate which line you'll take depending on the area where you are staying. Our fare from Shifen to Taipei Main Station is 59ntd.
